Erlotinib hydrochloride là một chất ức chế phân tử nhỏ của EGFR / HER-1 (thụ thể yếu tố tăng trưởng biểu bì của con người) tyrosine Kinase. Sự biểu hiện quá mức của EGFR có mặt trong nhiều chất gây ung thư và ức chế Kinase kích hoạt bởi Erlotinib cung cấp sự can thiệp hóa học vào các hệ thống này. Sự ức chế của tyrosine Kinase này ngăn chặn hiệu quả hoạt động EGFR nhưng không ngăn chặn sự phát triển của khối u.
